How to transport and care for balloon arrangements.
You’ve picked the perfect palette, we’ve styled the arrangement, and now comes the most nerve-wracking part: getting them from our Madrona studio to your living room.
Over the years, I’ve seen it all - balloons vs. trunk latches, balloons vs. curious golden retrievers, and the classic "sun-drenched car" incident. The good news? With a few simple tricks, transporting and caring for your balloons is actually pretty easy. Here is my "pro-tips" list for every party person heading out the door with a bouquet.
1. The "car prep" is everything
Before you even pull up to the studio, do a quick check of your car.
Clear the space: Fold down the back seats if you can. You’d be surprised how much room a "medium" bouquet actually takes up.
Check for "pokey" things: Look for exposed metal seat hinges or sharp corners on groceries. A quick drape of a blanket over sharp edges can be a lifesaver.
Temperature check: Balloons are a lot like us - they don't love extreme heat or cold. In the summer, blast the AC for a few minutes before we load them in. In the winter, let the heater run. If a car feels "stuffy" to you, it feels like a furnace to a balloon.
2. The "walk to the car" (the wind factor)
Seattle weather can be unpredictable. Even on a seemingly calm day, a sudden gust can turn a balloon bouquet into a sail. When you’re walking to your car, keep a firm grip on the weight and try to keep the balloons close to your body. If it’s particularly windy, don’t worry - we’ll help you navigate the sidewalk to make sure nothing makes an early escape.
3. Once they’re home: find the "sweet spot."
Balloons are happiest in a temperature-controlled room.
Avoid the "Vents": Try not to place your arrangement directly under an AC vent or right next to a space heater. Rapid temperature changes can make the air inside expand or contract, which can lead to a "shriveled" look or a sudden pop.
Sunlight is the enemy: Direct sunlight (even through a window) will "oxidize" balloons, giving them a velvety, matte look. While we love a matte aesthetic at Bloon, it happens much faster in the sun, and the heat can eventually weaken the latex.
4. The "no-touch" rule (mostly)
I know they look good enough to play with, but the oils from our hands and the static from pets can actually shorten a balloon's life. If you have little ones (human or furry), try to place the arrangement on a higher surface or in a corner where it won't be constantly "tapped" as people walk by.
5. How long will they last?
Since we use high-quality, professional-grade latex and air-filled designs (rather than just helium), your Bloon arrangements can often stay looking great for days - sometimes even a week or more - if they are kept indoors and away from sharp edges. If you notice a little "wrinkling" after a few days, that’s just the natural aging process of the balloon.
